Devolved

I joined Hub Pages to learn how to write content for internet articles and found that I enjoyed the ability to offer my opinions, views and speculation of not only current events, but also my alternative view of history and how I perceive it. In Beyond Stupid I will discuss why it is important for all of us with questions about history to offer our view of it with the World.

What I find distressing and unnecessary, not to mention frustrating are those that require proof to speculation, the very concept defies the logic of speculation. It's like arguing politics or religion, everyone has an opinion that they are entitled to. How can anyone argue a belief? The concept defies logic . . .

. . . until you realize that it isn't about logic but insecurity! An intelligent person does not require insults or cuss words to express themselves. The current tendency in our society today is contempt prior to investigation, what social psychologists call Cognitive Dissonance.

I have found a growing trend on Hub Pages that can be most distressing which is people, that simple join this community of intelligent, thoughtful and inquisitive writers, to deride, insult and demand 'proof' of the writing community without ever publishing anything of their own. When they do, it usually is simply regurgitating the thoughts of others while not offering any of their own.

I didn't join this community to argue with trolls, schills and other devolved lower life forms, the concept is Beyond Stupid! If one has an opinion, simply offer it in the form of an article and allow other's to comment on it. I find it somewhat offensive that Hub Pages allows this practice to take place, but perhaps this is why the rating system makes very little sense, to me anyway.

How can a Hub such as Did the Illegal Criminalization of Marijuana Lead to the Downfall of America get a thousand readers (views), in less than a week and be rated below 80!

The concept of Cognitive Dissonance explains, how many people simply refuse to even consider information that may require them to change their perception of reality. Because, most people feel safe in their View of the World, they are simply unwilling to explore the obvious deceptions of reality.

Most people would agree that history is written by the victorious, so as to cast the winners in a favorable light. For instance, if American History was written by the Native American or the Black Man would it not have a much different slant to it.

The point being that truth lies in the belief of the reader and it is entirely up to the reader to decide whether to believe the information or not.

So I ask you what is proof?

Is proof of a theory or concept found in the pages of a scientific document, a government report, a book by a so-called expert? Is proof in a documentary film on the History or Discovery Channel. Is proof found in the endless self made videos that grace You Tube or in the numerous blogs found on the WWW?

NO, proof is found in the Heart, proof is a feeling that one acquires from experience, critical thinking and a willingness to perceive and analyze information from many different angles.

Consideration is the key, being willing to consider all possibilities without instantly forming a defense or attacking the messenger.

Most people that feel a need to attack the messenger are in affect substantiating the message without even realizing it. Whether that is in the form of ridicule, laughter or insults matters very little. Their response is a validation of the information, that their self imposed insecurity does not allow them to recognize.

When we find offense in what others say or do, it is because we recognize a trait or action in that person, that we subconsciously recognize in ourselves and don't like. So the next time you deride another's view point or attempt to invalidate a concept with clever wit or rude insults . . . take the time to consider your actions and reasons for doing so.

One must realize that this form of communication or idea exchange is in fact a type of behavior that has been conditioned into most humans, from years of watching TV actors resolve their differences in just such a manner.

Consider, for a moment, the many humans on this Planet that did not grow up watching TV. They are the minority and every year that number grows smaller. They were not 'conditioned' to think in this manner, to respond to triggers imposed on our society generation after generation.

I welcome all comments that have a reason to them, but am the first to admit I do not nor wish to understand abbreviated text form language. If you wish to leave a comment, have a reason or point to make or I may respond in kind until you become aware that your comments are not welcome. If you wish to argue or trade insults, I may find it amusing to humor you for a while, but eventually I will ignore you and move on.

Their are forums on Hub Pages where this kind of communication is common place, but I have read many of them and they are simply a form of mental masturbation and accomplish very little.

I prefer to read informed opinions that provide linked research and ask the reader to ponder innovative ideas and concepts. Simply regurgitating common themes from known sources is counter productive, after all I am perfectly capable of Googling any subject and reading about them.

I offer this Hub as a way of responding to some recent YouTube rejects and Forum Philosophers that have a need to express their inane drivel, through the use of rude, insipid and quite frankly childish comments. It is very difficult to argue with ignorance as it will drag you down to it's level and beat you with experience.

Perhaps the best way to recognize a growing brain is one that can appreciate any and all views, while finding the positive in any information or idea. An intelligent mind finds it does not require proof to believe and can recognize valid concepts and theories without the need to spread contempt, fear and agitation.

However trolling does serve the purpose of identifying those that lack the mental dexterity to form coherent thoughts and offer engaging comments. The fact that there are those that need our kindness, patience and tolerance and often test all three, is simply a testimony to the need for enlightenment in our society.

So although the inane drivel of our fellow hubbers should be tolerated and perhaps even pitied, those that insist on displaying their ignorance for all to see in the comments section is in fact Beyond Stupid!

Your Welcome!

Hi Somethingblue,

I thought this was a great and honest Hub. There is a lot of projection going on here and tender nerves being struck, also wars of who is "right" or "wrong" in their ideas. This blunt Hub is brave and to the point.

The one reason I think there shouldn't be a time frame on when to write a Hub is because, well for me anyway, my disability gets in the way. I try to ignore the drama and write in a way that expresses my creativity. I try not to look at what I can't do but focus I what I can do. As far as the trolling goes, I think not giving it an audience is a good start.

As usual, I enjoyed your writing. I figure I have my moments, but I feel I must focus on creating and writing my Hubs and encourage others to write. That's all I can do. I don't care for the rudeness or the smart ass comments usually found on the Forum, so I ignore them. I do admit I have my moments. But online, you are dealing with the unknown. I don't want to analyze someone's behavior on HubPages. All I can do is ignore the negativity and move on. Who is behind that pen name? I really don't know. Online, you can be anyone you want to be, and no one will never really know where you're coming from or who you are. Voted up and everything else.

Time will tell, who is right. People take their doctrine pretty serious and at times it can get emotional. I try not to be rude in order to reflect my doctrine.

All three points are well made, thoughtful and in agreement. Although I don't say it, of course some of my own comments could be considered rude, negative and in considerate.

I awoke this morning with the thought that no matter how far we all run from the truth eventually we all must make a choice in whether to fight our own evil twin or deny it and continue to run. I suspect at some point in time each and every sentient soul in this galaxy must make this choice.

The choice to acknowledge our own evil deeds or deny they exist. Beyond Stupid is in a lot of ways a self examination. I have found that only by recognizing my defects of character do I have any chance of correcting them.

Speaking of history, I recommend Howard Zinn's a "People's History of the United States." Zinn is a historian who believes that to fully understand history, all the different sides need to be told.

I try to see all sides to everything which only causes confusion at which time I throw up my hands and say something like, "Who cares?"

Seriously, we do not know what is happening in a person's life at any given moment. Perhaps writing, no matter how crass, how inept, how stupid (if you will) is the only outlet one has.

Everyone comes in at a different level. One may have a Phd and one may have a GED. There are the immature, the growing, the mature; there are the suffering - hiding behind sarcasm. We just don't know. Man does not stand still. We are either growing or regressing.

I choose what I want to read. I have published only three stupid hubs (according to some requirements), but I am trying. I WANT to learn, grow, improve, and become a writer such as yourself. Your hub is very well written, very well structured which shows an education and excellence not all of us possess. I won't argue, I won't judge, I will only do my best. My best today is good enough for today. Tomorrow will be better. When some of the external causes of stress are gone, I shall write more.

Your hub is so well written that at first I felt

intimidated. Then, I realized that I am not starting from the same place as you.

I shall read your hubs with interest and hopefully learn something beneficial - at which time I shall pass it forward. Thank you for your contribution.

The Stages Of Me ~ Kathy 3 months ago

Somethgblue ~

Good morning I hope you day is awesome so far. I just want to say you are a passionate and honest writer. After publishing a small book myself I understand the attacks. In my first few moths after I was published and even here on Hub I use to ponder to a fault the reactions of others. Then I realized as you stated, we put it out there and others will do as they will with the information. I can not change someone else. Only by working on me do a make any movement in this world as a person to produce change. Your writing is a gift and do not allow others to deter your passion or heart. In this FREE world we are privileged to state our opinions and also privileged to agree to disagree. When reading someone else's work I always learn something. I always try to see something I can use in my own life. If by chance I am completely offended I choose to click it off, again my right. I do not find the need to demoralize or transform or attack. If I find myself caught up in any such conversation then I believe you are correct I am working on something within myself. Keep writing, Keep learning and keep being yourself hungry for knowledge and sharing. Blessings to you this day and always ~

The People's History isn't new. I don't remember exactly when it came out. But instead of telling the story from a Caucasian perspective, African, Asian, and Native American perspectives are all included as well. How exactly did the Native Americans feel about us invading their land, killing them, and breaking our treaties? Or how did African Americans feel when, throughout the majority of American history they were enslaved, or treated as second class citizens (some still are!)?

I don't consider most online work being real or truthful because it's the reader who has to decide. It's not that I'm going to hold my breath and wait for someone to come to their senses and apologize for a rude comment. Things aren't what they seem. It's like walking through a kennel with dogs yapping at you. The one that yaps the loudest will get your attention. Maybe.

somethgblue profile image

somethgblue Hub Author 3 months ago

True and good analogy, but most of the time you may not make a connection with the loudest yapper, but perhaps the most sincere!

All really wonderful thoughtful, comments , Thank you all for stopping by, Ruth Clark, I will have to read you other two hubs and also visit and read all who have commented.

I really didn't know how this one would be received and so far so good, thank you!

The Love Revolution is clearly starting to 'snow-ball.' This IS 2012, and we're getting really really close to that point of ultimate awareness, after which the actual battle for our collective future will begin - from what I can tell, anyway.

As far as the hub itself, extremely informative, deep, and entirely relevant. Good (if not great) read overall. I think most, if not all of us are guilty of some or all of these behaviors and tendencies you deride - whether in our online writing or in life generally. I know that after reading it, I will be working hard to avoid making these mistakes in the future.

somethgblue profile image

somethgblue Hub Author 3 months ago

Agreed, what started out as a way to vent turned into a self examination of motives and perhaps bad habits. Recognizing these tendencies allows us all to improve not only our articles but how we, respond to comments as well as how we comment on other hubs.

Phew! I thought from your title you were writing an article about me! Your capacity for self-examination and reflection is admirable. I also appreciate what you wrote about opinions and speculation versus the need to back up every statement with facts. It's called brainstorming and can lead to fresh solutions to problems. Now f**k off, you f**king nutard, you don't know sh*t (insert smiley here).

Well, I broke my streak, being the first commentator that is.

First thought that came to my mind was: Thank You. Thank you for having the intellect and robust courage to create an article about an underlying issue, especially on this platform. I have been "dealing" with this lately, here on Hubpages. I told myself I needed to take a step back, and decide whether I was going to waste my energy on the "mental masturbation" of out right extreme and ignorant beliefs and opinions or subsequent my alliterative motive, professionalism that I owe myself as a writer. I have now chosen the later, if that means I get docked for excusing myself from the forums as well as being extremely selective on who I follow and comment, then so be it.

You are apart of this ideal, you write on a level of up most intellect, provide personal insight backed with an immense creditability of informative resources.

I look at your score and seriously scratch my head, for each of hub I have read, (all) of yours is full of rich content, links, original photos, and videos yet the one that made HOTD, was the one with the least. I have to assume fault of the system. Not to say it was not worthy but all of your hubs should be in at least in the 80 score range.

You nailed it with a person self righteous publication of their personal view yet refuse to allow an intelligible conversation of difference. This has pushed me to unfollow one's hubs as well as because as you stated such truth above about this, I will not allow my time to be spent on such blindness of the compelling truth's one fails to see.

Kudos, somethgblue, my hubpage hero.

First of all Rob your not that important and If I was to write a Hub about anyone I would use their name or Avatar, but thanks for the King Nutard claim, I'll take that anytime!

thanks Jenubouka you obviously have good taste! I'm a hero, I wonder what super powers I have that I haven't fully realized yet.

Being Omnipotent in my Super Powers I miss nothing you insignificant flea, however by acknowledging those adjectives I then give them recognition and I did not deem them worthy of my supreme attention.

Trust the Word of One Who Knows, wow, that would be a good hub title!

"An intelligent person does not require insults or cuss words to express themselves."- so why do you post insults in the comments of a hub of mine?

somethgblue profile image

somethgblue Hub Author 3 months ago

Because you started insulting me, stop calling the kettle black and take responsibility for your words, go back and read the comment right before I insulted you and tell me how you started it.

If you don't want people to call you names and insult you then don't do it to them!

We were having an intelligent conversation and once you started making absurd comments and saw the error of your ways, you resorted to insults.

If you were ending communications you would not have responded do you see a pattern. I typed that last part real slow so you could follow.

See here is the deal, I'll spell it out for you . . . on your hub I have not responded, because I'm giving you the last word and allowing you to be right.

But here on my Hub I get to be right and so you can either stop responding, giving me the last word and acknowledging my Supremeness Awesomeness or get deleted, which would you prefer?

I like this hub I have no problem with folks joining hubpages simply to read hubs and comment on them and the forums. But, i do find it odd how in a snit people get when someone writes or says something they disagree with. Is someone doesn't believe in god and I do, it doesn't matter to me if someone writes a hub "proving" the non existence of God. it's their opinion and it doesn't mean my my faith is any more or less in tact.

But, whatever you do, don't post anything controversial or rude anonymously. I have no respect for that kind of cowardice.

Whenever I write a hub that is potentially controversial (or contains explicit language, as some of my poems and stories do), I open with a disclaimer and remind the reader that they have the right to not read nay further. I then state above the comment section that any abusive, unconstructive, or rude comments will be deleted and reported as spam. it tends to keep the riffraff down for me.

I thank you for taking the time to creatively write this hub on a somewhat poignant view & subject. I have bookmarked to read when more time allows thought to transpire. I was fine with the view, even though I still don't have a concept of what 'Stupid' is for this discussion or please define. Knowing I can infer from my knowledge base filling in that gap, I may become lost chasing a different concept of 'stupid.'

Regarding writing a hub by a certain time I agree with PDXK that I do not mind the readership of the non-writer also seeking community. Personally I was a member of hubpages for 3-months before posting my first hub. The main reason for me was I was afraid of the capsule process - go figure.

Adding to that view. I met a hubber more local to me, who contacted me, yet she is not here for writing, though has published. She is a professor at a local community college doing research for a thesis. Hubpages amongst other writing sites is her source for information using writing in both the big picture and brush stroke views providing data. Yes, she is a sociologist.

A personal opinion is 'yes' there will be differences, the question goes along with the theme from last weeks writing prompt topic - etiquette and manners.

Again thank you providing a means of thought and a perspective of identifying audience while contrasting readership vs. commenting.

Thank you both for your input on the subject, I wasn't sure how this article would be received but I've been pleasantly surprised . . . of course the title could offend the less secure, it was merely created to draw interest, plus I'm looking for a one word definition?

any ideas . . . what is beyond stupid?
